If you grew up loving those iconic Hostess Cupcakes with the chocolatey shell, creamy center, and cute little white swirl on top. This cake is going to make you so happy. It’s like one giant Hostess Cupcake, perfect for sharing.

This cake is rich, fudgy, filled with marshmallow crème, and topped with a smooth chocolate ganache that sets into the perfect shiny shell. And of course, we can’t forget that signature white swirl on top, it’s what makes it extra nostalgic.

Ingredients

For the Cake:

  • 1 box Betty Crocker Super Moist Chocolate Cake Mix

  • Eggs, oil, and coffee (sub coffee for water) as directed on the box

  • 1 jar (7 oz) Jet-Puffed Marshmallow Crème

For the Ganache:

  • 2 cups Nestlé Toll House semi-sweet chocolate chips

  • 1 cup heavy cream

For the Swirl:

  • Store-bought vanilla frosting or homemade buttercream (in a piping bag with a #3 or #5 piping tip)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the cake mix according to package directions, but use brewed coffee instead of water, it deepens the chocolate flavor. Bake and cool the cake layers completely.

  2. Spread marshmallow crème over the first cake layer. (Tip: pipe a buttercream “dam” around the edge first so the filling stays put!) Stack the next cake layer on top and repeat if you’re making a multi-layer cake.

  3. Make the ganache by microwaving the cream until hot (about 30–50 seconds), then pour it over the chocolate chips. Let sit for 2–3 minutes before stirring until smooth and glossy. Let it cool slightly, then pour over the cake and smooth it down the sides. Chill to set.

  4. Finally, pipe the signature white swirl across the top with your vanilla frosting. Slice, serve, and watch everyone’s eyes light up!

Tips & Tricks

  • Room temp cake layers: Chilling your cake before pouring on the ganache helps it set beautifully.

  • Clean swirl: Practice piping the swirl on parchment first for that perfect nostalgic look.

  • Make it fancy: Add a thin layer of chocolate buttercream under the ganache for extra richness.

This Hostess Cupcake Cake is a guaranteed hit for birthdays, bake sales, or any party where you want that “WOW” factor. It’s simple to make but looks like you spent hours in the kitchen.
