These Flower Sugar Cookies are the perfect way to brighten up any dessert table! Soft, buttery sugar cookie dough is shaped into adorable flowers with colorful petals, no cookie cutters required.
They’re a fun baking project for kids, a pretty treat for parties, and a cheerful pick-me-up for any day that needs a little color. Plus, you can customize the colors for any holiday or theme think pastels for spring, red and green for Christmas, or your favorite team colors for game day!
Ingredients
2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
½ tsp salt
2 tsp baking powder
1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, room temperature
1 ¼ cups sugar
1 large egg + 1 egg yolk
2 tsp vanilla extract
Food coloring (for petals)
Directions
Preheat your oven to 350°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
In a large bowl, mix the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add the egg, egg yolk, and vanilla extract, then mix again until smooth. Stir in the flour, baking powder, and salt until a soft dough forms.
Divide the dough into three equal portions. Leave one portion plain and use food coloring to tint the other two portions any colors you like for the petals.
Roll all the dough into small balls, about ¼ teaspoon of dough each. To form one cookie, arrange 5 colored balls in a circle on the baking sheet to make petals, then place one plain ball in the center as the flower’s middle. Gently press down on the flower to slightly flatten it.
Bake for 10–12 minutes, or until the edges are set and the bottoms are just turning golden. Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
Tips & Tricks
Get creative with colors: Use pastel shades for spring flowers or bold colors for a rainbow bouquet.
Add details: Use mini chocolate chips or sprinkles as the flower center before baking for extra cuteness.
